Board

The Board of Physical Therapy is an agency of the State of Minnesota. The Governor appoints the eleven member board which is comprised of five physical therapists, two physical therapist assistants, one medical doctor, and three public members.

Mission:
To ensure that Minnesota citizens receive appropriate physical therapy services from competent physical therapists.

Vision:
To protect the public through licensure of qualified physical therapists and to provide timely and impartial resolution of complaints against physical therapists.

NOTICE REGARDING MN APTA DIRECT ACCESS STATUTE INTERPRETATION

It has come to the Board’s attention that the Minnesota Chapter of the APTA is disseminating educational handouts regarding the new “direct access” language in the Physical Therapy Practice Act. Please be advised that these handouts constitute the interpretation of the Minnesota Chapter only, and do not constitute the official position of the Minnesota Board of Physical Therapy, the agency charged with interpreting and enforcing the statutes and rules governing licensed physical therapists and physical therapist assistants in the State of Minnesota. The Board does not approve, endorse or otherwise acknowledge the Minnesota Chapter’s interpretation, and it is not binding in any way on the Board. If the Board adopts a contrary interpretation, you may be subject to disciplinary or corrective action for engaging in the practice of physical therapy in accordance with the Minnesota Chapter’s interpretation.

The Board Adopted the Statement of Support for a Statewide Culture of Learning, Justice, and Accountability on January 18, 2007. The Minnesota Alliance for Patient Safety (MAPS) is a partnership between public and private organizations working together to improve patient safety. The MAPS statement reflects the philosophy of the Board of Physical Therapy and is consistent with the Board's mission to protect the public.
